Hi, my name is Maggie, and I am the founder of Learning Freely.
Learning Freely was inspired by my passion for education and the years of research I have devoted to understanding how children learn and flourish. I am currently working on a PhD focused on freedom-based, alternative, and holistic approaches to education.
My philosophy of education has been shaped by my own experience with alternative education as a child, my academic research, and my own approach to educating my son. At the heart of how I see education is the belief that children possess an inherent curiosity and wisdom that can help guide and direct their own learning. I believe that much of the richest learning happens in the real world; in community, out in nature, through story, art, music, and the richness of everyday human life. At the same time, I know that parents and educators often long for structure and can feel overwhelmed by the prospect of homeschooling or educating in a way that feels different from the conventional model.
Learning Freely was created to bridge these two needs: to provide children with space for rich, organic, wonder-based learning while offering parents a thoughtful framework and a sense of consistency and order along the way. My hope is that Learning Freely helps families create an education that is both beautifully structured and genuinely free; one that leaves room for curiosity, connection, wonder, and the unique child in front of us.
