Young One's Autumn Curriculum - Spiral-Bound Book
Learning Freely Young One’s Autumn Curriculum is a holistic, wonder-based resource for homeschooling families and alternative educators. Written and designed by a homeschooling mother and PhD student researching freedom-based and holistic alternative education.
Grounded in the belief that children learn best through story, wonder, connection, beauty, and lived experience, Learning Freely draws inspiration from the educational philosophies of Charlotte Mason, John Holt, John P. Miller, Waldorf education, Montessori education, and the classical education tradition.
Learning Freely is not designed to provide a full day of organized lessons. We believe that much of a young child's education happens beyond the curriculum: outside in nature, through play, conversation, practical life, good books, family experiences, and the freedom to follow their own interests.
Instead, Learning Freely offers a small, intentional portion of dedicated learning each week, a gentle framework that gives parents something meaningful to return to without turning the child's entire day into school.
The curriculum is intentionally flexible. A chapter does not need to be completed in a single sitting or followed in a rigid sequence. You might read a story once and move on, or return to it several times throughout the week, allowing the ideas, vocabulary, and knowledge to deepen naturally. Spend more time on the activities that capture your child's interest and move quickly through those that do not.
Each volume brings together living stories, classic myths and tales, poetry, beautiful artwork, nature study, history, geography, hands-on activities, and early literacy.
Created with children ages 4–8 in mind, the curriculum is particularly suited to the early elementary years, while remaining flexible enough to be enjoyed by younger or older children. Children can return to the same stories and subjects at different ages, discovering new details and making deeper connections as they grow.
The alphabet provides a gentle organizing thread throughout the year. Young One’s Autumn Curriculum introduces A–F through the natural world and the changing season. Winter, Spring, and Summer continue through the remainder of the alphabet.
You know your child best. Learning Freely is designed to support you, not to dictate what learning should look like.
Use it as the foundation for your weekly learning, or as a beautiful collection of stories, art, nature study, information, and activities to enrich an educational rhythm you already love.
